This is by far one of my favorite books on exploration. Percy Fawcett is a character that everyone roots for in a story, but he sadly never makes it back from the depths of the Amazon (this is not a spoiler since the whole book is written as Grann tries to find evidence of their trip).

The festival, which takes place in autumn, showcases the cultural landscape of a different region, nation or city every year. Although based in Basel the festival extends to many other places in Switzerland, such as Aarau, Bern, Chur, Zurich, Geneva or Bellinzona. This book uses cultural and technological change as a context for a more forensic exploration of the traditional dependence on the idea of ‘the media’ as one homogenous unit.
